
Janie KentBorn in Greybull, Wyoming, a small northwestern town in the Big Horn basin and raised in Ohio, Janie is from an artistic family. Her Grandfather Byrd was a talented photographer and sportsman in Wyoming. As a young girl in Ohio, Janie first began painting in her Grandfather Leist’s studio. (He was a president of the Dayton Painters and Sculptors).
Janie is a descendent of the early Hoover Settlers of the Ohio Valley and Andrew Leist (her maiden name), a Captain in the Revolutionary War who is included in the book Leist and Allied Families 1690 – 1990.
Growing up with horses, dogs and cats in Union, Ohio on the historic Old Mill Farm, Janie developed an early love of nature and animals.
After attending the Dayton Art Institute, she graduated Kappa Delta Pi with a major in art education from Wright State University.
Inspired by artists as diverse as Maude Earle, Harley Brown, Arthur Wardle, Andrew Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent, many of her current and past works portray dogs – her favorite subject.
Janie is a member of the Oil Painters of America as well as the Fallbrook Art Association.
